Research and Development of hydraulic filters and Basic details of filtration
While designing Hydraulic filter Or deciding hydraulic filter from readily available range, designers while considering removal of contamination has to balance between uninterrupted flow of oil and to check pressure drop of the system. It has to be balanced critically for better efficiency between system design and efficiency. If it is not balance optimum result can not be obtained as desired and cost of filtration increases.
So Research and Development for hydraulic filters consider mainly.
- Developing finer filter media which are cost effective
- Filtering media should have higher filtering efficiency and higher Beta ratio.
- Improving design of filter construction to maximize the filtration area and achievement of better performance standard .
Filtration Basics.
- The first of kind is simple strainer filter Or more precisely sieve . It is woven wires to make mesh.It is available in various mesh from large to very fine micron opening.
- The basic function is to allow particles with fluid having smaller than hole size and stops particles larger than the size of hole.
- This is basic type filter called suction strainer as it normally used in suction side with normally 150 micron mesh of Hydraulic circuits.
- For closer and fine micron rating, normally Depth media are used which are made from Synthetic fiber like glass fiber duly compressed.
- They are formed in such a way that they allow fluid but retains finer particles as they have multiple layers. By increasing layers of fiber media, it reduces the size of effective passage through which fluid flows , hence traps particles smaller than a single layer can.
- This can hold finer particles and have high dirt holding capacity and higher filtering efficiency and Beta ratio.
